Best Electric Coffee Percolators Consumer Reports 2023
1. Presto 02811 Stainless Steel Electric Coffeemaker
The Presto 02811 looks like it was brought straight from the ‘70s and ‘80s. The traditional all stainless steel design is officially antique, but we mean that in every good way possible. Also, make no mistake, even though this electric percolator doesn’t look like a modern machine, it has most of the niceties that you’d come to expect from a percolator made in recent years.
Capable of making as much as 12 cups of coffee in a minute and keep it hot with no fuss, this electric percolator is as easy to clean as it is to operate. Both the filter basket and perk tube are made out of stainless steel. This means that cleaning will be easy and they’ll last a long time.
Speaking of easy, you don’t have to worry if your coffee is going to be served burnt or late. This percolator will tell you if your coffee is ready already using its signal light indicator.
In case you prefer even finer coffee, this percolator can fit most if not all wrap-around coffee filters. However, even without a filter, you can expect good-quality coffee to come out from this percolator.
Unfortunately, while we did mention that this percolator comes with modern conveniences, it lacks the safety features found on other percolators. This doesn’t mean that it’s dangerous. But for those who prefer to have a safety feature on top of a safety feature, the Presto 02811 definitely isn’t for you.
If you’re simply looking for an electric percolator that does it job well though, you’ve come to the right place.
- Traditional design
- Pure stainless steel construction
- Easy-pour spout
- No automatic shut-off feature

2. Dualit Cordless Electric Percolator
If you’re looking to make coffee for an entire family with minimal trouble and utmost convenience, you’ll want to take a look at what the Dualit Cordless Coffee Percolator has to offer.
Yes, you read that right, this is a cordless coffee percolator.
Just don’t expect this to be purely cordless. You’ll still have to plug the base in. But other than that, you’re pretty much using a kettle or a stovetop percolator. The only difference is that this one is electric and can make as many as 10 large cups of coffee with an auto switch-off feature after 10 minutes of not being used.
Dualit also pretty much thought of everything. The handle is large and heatproof, with a finger-guard placed on the ball knob. The drip spout is also oversized and non-drip for minimal mess. This percolator also gets a transparent lid on top so you can see your coffee being brewed and made according to your own liking. Even the lighting features are great because it turns orange when it’s brewing and green when you can drink it.
Last but definitely not the least, the 360-degree swivel base is fairly easy to conceal and is compatible with both tea bags, as well as ground coffee.
- Cordless functionality
- Automatic switch-off safety feature
- Stay-warm mode
- Finding the right coffee mixture or combination can get tricky
3. Farberware 50124 Classic Yosemite Electric Percolator
One of the cheapest electric percolators on our list, the Farberware 50124 Classic Yosemite percolator is an excellent pick, regardless of its price. It’s just that, we’re recommending it even more because it’s priced way below than what most electric percolators typically sell for.
This stainless steel electric coffee percolator can brew as many as 8 cups at once and is mostly made out of stainless steel. It’s also dishwasher-safe and submersible. This makes it relatively easy to clean. But, be wary of the plastic clear viewing knob though, because that’s a glaring weak spot in an otherwise near-perfect electric percolator.
Speaking of weak spots, we didn’t think we’d say it, but this coffee percolator feels a bit too shiny.
This is a huge issue because it draws unwanted attention and makes it look like a centrepiece. However, even though it’s not ugly, it’s not stunning nor timeless either. Also, being this shiny means that it’ll be a problem bringing this out in the woods because it will stand out like sore thumb at night.
If you can look past those issues though, we don’t think that you’ll find a half-galloon electric percolator that’s better than this one.
- Submersible and dishwasher-safe
- Just the right size for both function and portability
- Doesn’t have a ready light feature
- Plastic viewing knob
4. Hamilton Beach 40616 Electric Percolator
Also made out of stainless steel, the Hamilton Beach 40616 Percolator is an easy bet to last for a long time. It also certainly only adds to its allure that it’s backed by a company well-known for their kitchen appliances. However, even if you take out the manufacturer’s name from this electric percolator, it would still be a best-seller.
Why we throw such high praise to this electric percolator is mainly because of a mix of upsides not found on other electric percolators.
Some have ready indicator lights. Some have detachable cords. Some also have drip-free spouts. Some also keep coffee warm automatically and have cool-touch handles. However, you’ll have a hard time finding an electric percolator that has all of those features, and this electric percolator is on the shortlist.
Lastly, because it’s made out of solid stainless steel, you can pretty much “season” it and by that, we mean not clean it after every use.
This isn’t a common practice anymore. However, back then, most people didn’t really bother washing their percolators, electric or not. They just used it every day and when it ran out of ground coffee, they refiled it and that’s it. No washing. Although we wouldn’t recommend this to everybody, those who’ve developed an acquired taste to these types of percolators and the coffee that they produce, we believe that the least that you can do is to give this a try.
All in all, so long as you are willing to look past its heavy build, the Hamilton Beach 40616 is easily one of the best electric percolators for 2022.
- Solid construction, made out of stainless steel
- Detachable cord
- Cool-touch handle
- Ready indicator lights
- The detachable cord is a little short
5. Maxi-Matic EC-120 Electric Percolator
The Maxi-Matic EC-120 is what you’d consider as a safe choice as far as electric percolators go. This is because it’s not ground-breaking, by any means. However, safe is as good as any can get, especially if you’re not exactly someone who frequently shops for a percolator, nor someone who would want to always go shopping for one.
Built out of pure stainless steel — well, except for the transparent top knob which lets you watch the coffee swirling around — you can rest easy knowing that the Maxi-Matic will pretty much last for as long as you would want.
Another added benefit of solid stainless steel construction is that it doesn’t contain any plastic. This means that it can brew that signature percolator coffee without the off-taste and aroma that’s commonly associated with percolators that have plastic parts and/or mechanisms.
In addition to its stainless steel material, the Maxi-Matic EC-120 comes with ready-to-drink indicator lights, ergonomic and heat-resistant handle, as well as a uniquely designed spout that’s curved at just the right angle to minimize drips while you’re pouring your favourite cup of joe.
Now, while we did mention that this electric percolator isn’t ground-breaking, it does have an advantage over most. We’re not just talking about its construction and build quality. Rather, we’re talking about how you can lift the pot from the heating element. This allows you to pour your coffee without being tethered to a wire and then return the pot to its base where it can be reheated as long as the percolator is plugged in.
If you’re worried, the Maxi-Matic EC-120 has a boil-dry safety feature that guarantees that the pot won’t continue heating if it has no liquid.
- Makes aromatic and flavorful coffee with zero unpleasant aftertaste
- You can lift the pot off of the heating element for “cordless” service
- Comes with a variety of smart safety features
- Knob reportedly has a tendency to break and fall-off prematurely
6. Elgento E011/M0 Electric Coffee Percolator
If you entertain guests often, or you just happen to drink around 7 large cups of coffee a day, then the Elgento E011/M0 Electric Coffee Percolator is perfect for you.
One of the few cordless electric coffee percolators out there, this is as easy to operate as a percolator can get. All you have to do is to just put in your coffee, water, and plug it in. That’s it. Once it’s done, you can take it off of its 360-degree base and serve wherever. Also, if in case there’s some coffee leftover, you can put it back on top of the base again to keep it warm and ready.
Speaking of ready, you’ll know if your coffee is ready because the light indicators will go from red (brewing and heating) to green (ready).
For safety, the Elgento percolator has both an auto switch-off feature and boil-dry protection. This gives you peace of mind. After all, you don’t have to worry if you forgot to fill it with water or if it’s going to overheat anymore.
Last, but definitely not the least, because of the tall design, you can make a lot of coffee using this electric percolator. But at the same time, it won’t take up too much space, and you’ll definitely want to display because it looks elegant and is an appliance that’s worthy of being shown off.
- Elegant design
- Made specifically to be comfortable and easy to use
- Can make as many as 7 large cups of coffee per batch
- Flimsy basket
7. West Bend 54159 Classic Electric Percolator
There’s no such thing as a perfect electric percolator. It’s either too expensive or too low-quality if it’s on the affordable side. But while the West Bend 54159 Classic Electric Percolator feels like it’s leaning more towards the latter, it’s still good enough to warrant a recommendation as one of the best electric percolators out there.
Feature-wise, this percolator is typical of a cordless percolator. This means that it has a lot of safety features. This includes, among others, auto-shutoffs and boiling protection. Again, these aren’t deal-breakers, but it’s nice to have an added layer of safety when dealing with these things.
Speaking of safety, what makes this percolator quite unique is that both of the base and the handle stays cool. This applies even when the contents are hot.
What makes this electric percolator even better is that the water-level window is actually quite visible. This means that you won’t have to worry about putting too much water or your coffee coming out wrong.
Truth be told, this electric percolator is not a must-have. There are better options. But it’s not half-bad either.
- Clear water-level window and indicator
- Automatic keep-warm setting
- Base and handle stays cool
- The cord is very short
- Build quality leaves a lot to be desired
8. Hamilton Beach 40515R Hot Beverage Dispenser
Size-wise, this is not your typical electric percolator. In fact, this item’s very description doesn’t even describe it as a percolator. But, regardless of how you look at it, the Hamilton Beach 40515 Hot Beverage Dispenser is still an electric percolator and a damn good one at that, which is why we included it in our list.
First things first, this electric percolator wasn’t built for households. Unless, of course, your household sees dozens of coffee drinkers on a daily basis. In offices though, it’s a different story entirely.
Capable of producing anywhere between 15 to as many as 45 cups of coffee (makes roughly around a cup a minute), this electric percolator is perfect for large gatherings and other social events.
To make pouring coffee for a lot of people even easier, the two-way dispenser lets you pour enough coffee for a standard cup, or leave it to continuously pour until you turn it off manually. Either way, both have their uses. Also, this percolator will signal if you can serve the coffee already. Plus, if you spend a bit more (like $10, give or take), you can get yourself the dual-spout variant to make pouring coffee easier and more effective.
All in all, the combination of the features and minimal negative reviews suggest that this percolator deserves a spot on our list of the best electric percolators for 2020.
- Can serve as many as 45 cups of coffee
- Minimal negative reviews from previous users
- Two-way dispenser
- Too big for personal use
- Coffee doesn’t taste as good compared to more traditional-sized percolators
9. Cuisinart PRC-12 Electric Percolator
You’ll have a hard time selling someone the idea of using electric percolators based on looks. They’re traditionally not good-looking. In fact, some are downright ugly. But many have come to accept this as the compromise to make to have strong and aromatic percolator-made coffee. However, this doesn’t always have to be the case, as the Cuisinart PRC-12 Classic 12-Cup Percolator will prove to you.
Mind you, this electric percolator isn’t really beautiful. At the very least though, it’s not an eyesore. Cuisinart did a good job in creating a slim and compact electric percolator whose tapered spout complemented the overall design.
Also, where, in other electric percolators, having a transparent top knob is a bad idea, the top knob complements the overall design of the Cuisinart well.
Aesthetics aside, this electric percolator is quite functional. It has all of the goodies that most electric percolators have. It even has an indicator light to show when it’s brewing, as well as a stay-cool bottom unit that guarantees that wherever you put it on top of will not suffer from scorch damage.
One big thing to note with the Cuisinart art is that it can only make more than four cups, making it one of the worst percolators for households who don’t have multiple coffee drinkers.
- Slim and elegant design
- Indicator lights
- Stay-cool bottom unit
- Limited brewing capacity
If it’s your first time using a percolator making a coffee, we definitely advise extending your patience.
Learning how to make coffee using percolators is not something that you learn overnight. You’ll have to go through batches of weak and bitter coffee first before you end up with the ideal finely balanced and strong brew that percolators are known for.
Thankfully, using any one of the best electric percolators that we recommended in our list above can help minimize any need for experimentation.
